April 2021
Life is going well, and certainly for Brennan and Asher. The latter started football shortly before spring break, but that's been paused for the track season, which he joined in the interim. There will only be 3 meets total - today was the first and they didn't compete against any other schools. But it was super fun to watch him. Asher did hurdles and I think the 100m sprint. He's enjoying the exercise and being part of a team.
Brennan is really living on cloud 9 though. After convincing Asher to try new sports during this covid time when everything is "sports lite", and not to mention free, I actually managed to talk Brennan into trying something. He thought golf would be OK, and I talked him into maybe trying tennis too. He agreed to let me register him for that as well. Shortly thereafter I heard back from the tennis coach with info about practices (which they'd started the day before) and Brennan tried to chicken out, because he's Brennan... Coming in to a new thing, late, and feeling behind, and not knowing what's going on = everything in life that gives him anxiety. 😂 But I told him to just go. TRY IT one time. He did, the coach said he could use (and then have to keep) a racquet, and Brennan came home from that first practice absolutely thrilled. Every day has only gotten better. He decided he liked the sport on day one, then quickly felt totally fellowshiped and accepted by the teammates. What a blessing. ❤️ He started begging to practice with us, so I ended up buying is another 3 racquets AND a pickleball set so there is something for everyone to do. 😊
Brennan's team had their first match last Monday and none of them won any matches. Today was match #2 and they won their first game... By none other then Brennan and his partner! The whole team was cheering Brennan on the whole time. Sitting nearby, I overhead his name come up other times and I felt they were truly excited for him and rooting for him. They were all ecstatic that the "newbie" won them their first game of the season.
Besides tennis, Brennan was excited to turn 16 a few days ago, and went through the interview process and accepted a position for his first job! He can. not. wait. to spend the summer in Idaho - licensed and working and living the dream. 😊
