No-Prep "Home Learning/Working" for 7

I am thankful, THANKFUL, beyond words that if this pandemic had to happen, that it happened after we were out of our Camas Commons house. Oh my gosh, we would have be so squished, unable to accommodate people being able to work or study, unable to let the kids play outside at all because "social distancing" from your neighborhood peers would have been impossible.

So, how does one create a system where up to 7 people can attend class or school Zoom meetings, play educational games, or manage other necessary home duties, all with basically no prep time on who will need to do what and how and when? You think strategically!

Nate has been working from home since last week, and we set him up in our bedroom which works nicely enough. He's got a bit of a view (mostly the backside of the neighbor's house, but what are you gonna do), and our room is the most secluded from the noise of the rest of the house.

We'd made ourselves a long desk in the formal dining room - turned family computer/activity/game/dining area. (I love the multifunctional aspect of this space!) Thanks to the generosity of Mom and Dad, we've gained a second computer to put there. Currently Hollyn and Kieran are playing math games on Prodigy which they could (and have before) played for hoooours.

Asher hasn't been given any set instructions from his teachers yet, other than general ideas of sites one can visit. He can use the laptop at the desk, or the table behind it (currently taken up by a "massive" game. (HAHAHA. What, no-one got my pun? I didn't think so. The game is called Massive Darkness.)

Brennan already had a couple of seminary meetings on Zoom, and he'll have band videos (and probably Zoom meetings) he'll need to do with some bit of privacy, so I've set up my laptop in the "music room" for him on a little lap desk. (This is also our church room the last few weeks, our quiet reading room, and guest room.)

And lastly, Kylea's school is starting daily instruction. (What the public schools will eventually be getting to.) So when she's here, she'll need to work on her projects and assignments and watch her teacher's video instructions. Luckily there's still an unused desk space in the family room, and the desk in our kitchen-dining area. And if we're really desperate, there's a desk in the girls room (the dolls will have to move out and the rest of the furniture moved back into place. They've used shelves and dressers to create separate living spaces for their dolls) and a bathroom vanity. 😂😂😂 Soooo, yeah, I'm feeling pretty good about our options.

  1. You're so clever and adaptable! And I am also grateful you're no longer in Camas Commons.
